Special Collections
This job consists of shelving/-reshelving books, creating tags, step-marking books, and paging books and other objects. I have also gained experience creating housing for books with detached materials by using archival materials, such as cardstock and Mylar.
Through this job, I have improved my hand skills, put into practice preventive conservation techniques, and gained insight to how a library works.
Manuscripts & Archives
This sister department of the Special Collections Department, has given me the chance to humidify and flatten paper artifacts, work with online archival spaces for storing digital images of objects, and re-house sensitive material. Shredding and information collection has also been a part of my job description.
Like Special Collections, working here has helped me hone my preventive conservations skills, work with archival material, and get a better idea about how archives work.
